Education. This citizen‑initiated recall petition gives Calgary-Bow a clear, democratic voice to defend this right.

Why this petition? Growing strain on public education is creating damaging results in classrooms –  students, teachers, staff, and support workers –  are being pushed to their limits while Minister Nicolaides accelerates investment into private and charter school programs.

The petition application states, “I respectfully request the recall of Demetrios Nicolaides, Alberta’s Minister of Education and MLA for Calgary-Bow. His record demonstrates a clear failure to support public education. He prioritizes privatization, committed to increasing charter-private school funding from $42 million in 2022 to $561 million by 2027. Alberta charter and private school investment is unmatched across Canada. Meanwhile, public education faces: overcrowded classrooms, inappropriate curricula, inadequate resources, and insufficient funding and staff. Furthermore, Mr. Nicolaides continues to dismiss Alberta’s role in promoting fossil fuel disinformation in schools across the country. His actions render him unfit to lead Alberta Education or represent Calgary-Bow.

A strong result — 16,000+ Bow residents signing — sends the Education Minister, Demetrios Nicolaides packing, forcing a by-election in Calgary-Bow. Why stop there?
